Putin is a demagogue - wants to expand. I am surprised the world didn’t do anything prior - just waiting and watching. Now we have a World War III situation.
Hats off to the courage of Ukraine citizens in fighting. They are brave and rising to the occasion
America needs to step up and protect Ukraine. Send resources, arms, ammunitions - they need the help. They cannot be left alone.
We have to stop the war. If Putin succeeds, Poland and Baltic Countries are next. countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea. Putin is feeling the desperation and is already talking about nukes
President Zelensky feels helpless and this is the time to help. They gave up their nuclear status and this is what they got. Belarus is now wanting to get back their nuclear status. This has clearly destabilized the region,Germany announced a $100 billion spending increase. A Ukrainian parliament member Kira Rudik promised "more surprises" said that Poland and Baltic - countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea. U.S. will further bolster Ukraine's defense Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced $350 million in aid.
Sanctions: The SWIFT ban is good. Economic sanctions we need to apply full throttle. Energy. Russian companies have not turned off the internet in Ukraine. They need the dollars.
How about replacing Russian Oil & Energy prices by creating the supply chain from the United States? That would really be a huge detriment - when the economy tanks, thoughts of globalization disappear. There is no need to target Russians or Russian students in the United States.
Entry into NATO and the 1823 Monroe Document: We all know about the 1962 Cuban Missiles crisis. As a dominant power, the US has the right to intervene against any country that can threaten our interests. Our standards should be the global standards too. We have to be cognizant of what started all this. Encroachment of NATO countries into the neighborhood is not good.
Yes. America should figure out ways to protect Ukraine and stop Putin.
In a poll just released by the Associated Press, just 26 percent of Americans say the U.S. should play a major role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Here is where I stand on this.
Sun Tzu teaches us to know thy enemy: And to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine, we need to understand where Russia is coming from. Nefarious as their reasons may seem to us, it is well rooted in their fear of NATO troops slowly inching into THEIR borders.
As per Putin - The West was making a lot of noise about Ukrainian independence, because it was looking for an excuse to admit Ukraine into NATO and invade Russia. ““if Ukraine were to join NATO, it would serve as a direct threat to the security of Russia.” Russia opposes Ukraine's inclusion into NATO as a threat to Russia’s borders. Five NATO countries currently border Russia. After Russia’s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, pro-Russian separatists proclaimed two republics in the eastern part of the country: the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic much to the Ukrainian government’s consternation. This is where Putin is today.
We need to de-escalate!
While nothing is a justification of Putin's heinous actions, it at least gives us a mild glimpse of Russia as a complex nation full of hopes and fears and not just a cartoonish boogeyman portrayal. Military grandstanding is fruitless; insightful incisions into their psyche however will show us a path.
Creative options!
America should declare - Ukraine will never be a NATO country and defuse the situation.
The reality is - Ukraine will never get the unanimous vote to be admitted into NATO,
Putin's invasion violates Russia’s sworn commitments, but America is reaping what was sowed. The historical record shows that Washington has meddled in the political affairs of dozens of countries—including many democracies. An egregious example occurred in Ukraine during the Euromaidan Revolution of 2014. Was the coup organized by the U.S. Government?
Here is a reminder - The word "missile" appears 19 times in the COVID Relief Bill, "Munition" 46 times, "weapon" 46 times, "Healthcare" 24 times. Is the U.S. Military Industrial complex raring for another war? No! Let us fight for peace. America needs protection from biowarfare, bioterrorism, cyber warfare, cyber terrorism and ransomware challenges - let us apply our $777 billion annual defense (aka offense) spend for this.
The old ways of war have to be cast away and we need to pilot new approaches of de-escalation - whether Ukraine or Taiwan
Who will emerge as a world statesman?
War is NEVER the option. We have to operate smarter
