Audit the California Department of Housing
Happy New Year!
Have you noticed the brewing housing crisis? Cities are reeling with the push to build high-density housing via housing mandates like SB-9, SB-10 and the Housing Element's inflated RHNA numbers. It is clear that the California Department of Housing & Community Development's (HCD) RHNA numbers provided to our cities have huge flaws. I am fighting it! I have never believed in following the herd. The California State Auditor is now auditing HCD on their inflated RHNA numbers. Â Would you like to send your input to the state audit team? My activism always stems from deep knowledge and research: This sample letter lays out the reasons to reject the inflated RHNA numbers - print, sign and mail. Get involved and express your voice.
Below is the outcome when cities fail to build as per the RHNA allocation. Loss of all retail, and SB-35 allowing developers a free reign on development in our city. Pic: Quito VIllage project approved based on SB-35, leading to a loss of Gene’s Fine Food & Wine grocery store
We will discuss this housing challenge and many other topics at my January town hall meeting on Sunday, January 30 at 2:30pm. RSVP to join.
Cannot make it? Take the survey please.
Host Rishi for a Meet & Greet to discuss housing or any other topics with your neighbors. Send your request here.
Rep. Eshoo's 44-year report card is here. Remember the floppy drive era? When I am walking neighborhoods, I hear a consistent cry for "fresh blood." I brace myself for the day Count Dracula opens the door 😀. So far, 45 Washington legislators have announced retirement and are yielding the way for America's future.Â
Request a campaign lawn sign - delivered to your front lawn by the Kumar for Congress team for no charge 😀
High school and college students can apply for the summer internship - scroll down for details.
A new way forward: If you feel that we need term limits and our elected leaders are staying too long, get involved with our campaign. We garnered 127k votes in the November 2020 election - better than any prior challenger in 30 years of this district. With your support we can get to the target 172k votes and Silicon Valley can finally have a tech savvy congressional representative, that we have never had in a million years of Silicon Valley.
An Internship Opportunity:
College applications, devoid of SAT or ACT scores have increased emphasis on the essay and the community leadership story - impact that students have made with local issues and challenges. Point your high school students - including rising high schoolers - or college student to our internship program. I would love to team up with them to continue the fight against ill-conceived housing laws or fighting San Jose Water company against their rampant rate increases. Did you know that one of our interns designed and developed the Silicon Valley Water app that thousands in Silicon Valley are using to send their protest emails to PUC in less than 10 seconds. Registration for the summer internship is open now at RishiKumar.com/Fellowship.
