I am seeking your input - take 2 minutes and take the survey
I am looking for your input based on the fiasco at yesterday’s city council meeting, where councilmembers are blindly follow staff recommendation and are in a desperate hurry to move forward with the Housing Element, while other cities are doing the due diligence and want to do it right. This is the biggest crisis in Saratoga’s history and should be done with a pragmatic, rational, data-driven approach - not the current haphazard approach of today. Point to be noted - Saratoga’s city staff report to the city council and take direction - not vice versa.
Real-estate developers are watching our zoom meetings
I wonder why I was the only one attacked by a land-developer staffer at the council meeting so far…they must love me!
Saratoga has been setup for an epic failure - explained here - search for "The Housing Element’s inflated* housing goals”
We are in a lose-lose situation - I have been saying this for sometime.
No wonder land-developers are watching our zoom meeting and one even attacked my housing policies even though the person said “I like Rishi"
Obviously - it doesn’t favor them.
I see a train wreck that continues to accelerate
The council did not pay heed to my plan that was sent Sunday night ahead of yesterday’s meeting.
My plan wants to step back and approach it from a metrics-driven analysis. I am suggesting that staff needs to pull together ALL sites and evaluate each site based on criteria and provide us the data to evaluate. We are trying to design this at the council meetings with very limited data and without the foundation of an urban plan. The city council as a group - without my support - continues down the “whack a mole approach.” Our staff should be pushed to be a bit more diligent - held accountable and put to work. We should be directing the staff members - not taking their direction as if it is the "word of God."
Where is this going?
If we are considering a max 10 stories (Prospect/Lawrence today) and 4 stories at the Pumpkin Patch on Saratoga Avenue, what does the future look like?
In 2030, we will be grappling with the next housing element, and will we be considering 20 stories and 8 story buildings in Saratoga?
I cannot participate in the current approach.
